To The Bristol,
PA Masonic Lodge No. 25

On March 15, 1780,
a warrant was issued by William Ball, Right Worshipful Grand Master
of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania,
“to hold a lodge of Free and Accepted Masons at the Town of Bristol,
in the State of Pennsylvania, or anywhere within 5 miles of said
town, Number 25.”
Those appointed
and recognized to hold lodge at Bristol were Brother John Clark,
Worshipful Master; Brother Samuel Benezet, Senior Warden; and
Brother Dr. William McIlvaine, Junior Warden. John Clark, the
first Master of Bristol Lodge, was an officer in the British Army
and resided in this country on leave of absence from his regiment.
In 1780 when he
became Master, Clark was considered a man of local prominence
and much wealth, and lived on Fairview Farm south of the village
of Bristol.
"Freemasonry
is an ancient system designed to impart morality, ethics and teach
mutual service to its members. Instead of lecture or sermon, Freemasonry
instructs its members by the performance of ceremonial degrees,
each one with its own distinct teachings, symbols and message.
Thus the Freemason is taught by experience to serve God, help
his fellow man and better himself."
